Winter challenge 05/06

Here you will find a short review and the results of the first Alfacup racing series, which also included the Lotus Cortina. The Alfacup winter challenge started in 2005 and ended in May 2006. The clear winner was the Finnish driver Iltavilli, who not only won most of the races, but also frustrated the rest of the field with incredible laptimes and error-free driving. He deserves his inofficial title "the alien".

Our winner Iltavilli, also called "the alien", during
the press conference after his victory in Monza.

Some screenshots of the Winter05/06 cup can be found here.

Further highlights of the winter series 06

- Johnny Dee, who managed to finish almost no race because of technical problems or unlucky racing incidents and even was injured (during simdriving!!!) by hammering his foot against the desk, was the clear winner in the "master of desaster" special cup

- Andy was responsible for the "funny story of the year" by passing his wheel to his 11-year old son when the doorbell interrupted his race. His son mixed GTL up with the famous racing game "demolition derby" and it was an interesting challenge for everybody that tried to lap him. By the way this was the only incident where we had real troubles with wrecking during the whole season.

- Country of the year is definitly Finland, where not only the winner, but most of the fast drivers came from. The "Finnish mafia" took 3 of the top 5 positions in many races. By the way: Alfacup drivers came from all over the world including North and South America and Australia!

- The "alarm clock of the year" goes to Nivola, who managed to get up early at 2 a.m. in the morning in Australia to race  with us and never fell asleep on the long straights. Note that the admin missed one race because he fell asleep (at 4 pm noon time).

- The "email of the year" came from an driver who told the admin that he is one of the fastest and most experienced online drivers and usually wins online races and would be willing to drive with us if he finds our races challenging enough and good sports. In his first race he was lapped by Iltavilli (without having spinned or crashed!) and never came back. Probably the challenge was not big enough.

- Big thanks to all drivers for fair, enjoyable and fun racing, and especially for the atmosphere in the forum, where the fast drivers helped the slower ones to improve their laptimes. Great community!
